Hi everyone, hope you are okay! Today I bring you my April Wrap Up. This month was the OWLs Magical Readathon hosted by Book Roast. You can find all the information on this readathon here. I have never participated in the OWLs or NEWTs but it has always looked so much fun. I read 2 books, 1 graphic novel and listened to 1 audiobook and I found a new favourite this month!
Okay so for the OWLs my chosen career was a Magizoologist which meant that I had 4 exams to complete (Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, Charms and Potions). My first choice would have been a Healer but there was way too many prompts and I just knew that it would be unrealistic. But I love animals and caring for magical creatures would be so cool! Anyway on to the what I actually read.
Nevernight – Jay Kristoff | Goodreads
Charms – white cover
OMG where do I begin with this book. I have had this for a while and always wanted to read it but felt quite intimidated as I’ve never read adult fantasy before but WOW. This book exceeded my expectations and I was obsessed. I listened to the audiobook whilst reading along with my physical copy. I loved the narrator of the audiobook but because of the footnotes I just found it easier to physically read as well. Mia Corvere is a new favourite character as well as Mister Kindly. I don’t normally write about the plot of the books in my wrap up so I have linked the Goodreads page. But a school for assassins? Yes please. This was action packed with a slight mystery aspect, lots of swearing, a little bit of sex and quite a lot of violence – so good haha!
The Raven Boys – Maggie Stiefvater |Goodreads
Care of Magical Creatures – creature with a beak on the cover
This is another one that I have had on my shelf for a long time and I always knew that I would love it but for some reason just never picked it up. I do admit that I found it quite slow at first but was still intrigued by the story. I found myself just quite addicted to it but I honestly couldn’t tell you why. When I finished it I also found myself just thinking about it for ages and as soon as I have finished my current book, I want to read The Dream Thieves.
The Tea Dragon Society – Katie O’Neill | Goodreads
Potions – a book under 150 pages
This has had so much hype recently and a lot of the time I give in to the hype and just have to know if it’s good. I don’t read a lot of graphic novels but I do love them. I don’t have a specific favourite genre, as long as I like the artwork I’ll probably pick it up. This was okay, I don’t add graphic novels to my Goodreads so I haven’t rated it but I’d say maybe a 3? I feel like that might be an unpopular opinion but it was just ok. I admit it was cute and the artwork is gorgeous but there wasn’t really much story? I’m sorry if you love this, it just wasn’t for me.
My Not So Perfect Life – Sophie Kinsella | Goodreads
Herbology – title starts with an M
This is my fourth Sophie Kinsella book and it was fairly enjoyable, not my favourite, not my least favourite, just average. I listen to all my Sophie Kinsella books and they’re just really easy to get through and light hearted so it’s a nice chilled out read. I don’t know what else to say about this really, it isn’t heavily romance based which normally I like with these books but it was still enjoyable.
That’s it for my April Wrap Up. I’m so glad that I managed to complete my OWLs and now I’m even more excited to participate in the NEWTs.
Did you participate in the OWLs, let me know what career you went for! If not let me know some books you read in April!
Stay safe and see you soon 🙂
